IMPORTANCE OF TELEMEDICINE DURING COVID-19
reinforcing our commitement
As a wave of the novel coronavirus took over the world and this disease became a global pandemic, healthcare resources have increasingly been devoted to fighting this virus. Moreover, it has limited access to hospitals for other patients and disrupted the basic health services. As a burdened healthcare system grapples with these issues, telemedicine has the potential to ease this burden to a certain extent. Our government also recognizes this and has issued some guidelines on telemedicine:
“Disasters and pandemics pose unique challenges to providing health care. Though telemedicine will not solve them all, it is well suited for scenarios in which medical practitioners can evaluate and manage patients. A telemedicine visit can be conducted without exposing staff to viruses/infections in the times of such outbreaks. Telemedicine practice can prevent the transmission of infectious diseases reducing the risks to both health care workers and patients,” the guidelines say.
Recognizing the importance of telemedicine during COVID-19, we connected doctors with ailing patients in old age homes through video conferencing facilities. The online consultations provided a medium for the patients to express their problems, the doctors to evaluate those problems and prescribe medicines to the patients.

A few examples of our Tele-consultation
We have consulted over 500 people and will continue to provide free healthcare to those in need.

SHRI GANESH VRIDH AASHRAM
Make a Difference Today
TELE-UPCHAAR wants to spread our message of hope and compassion. Through outreach activities, our team works tirelessly each day to contribute their part to the greater good.Taking our initiative to another old age home gave us an opportunity to help those in need. We did this by connecting the women of the Sri Ganesh Vridh aashram with Dr. Anand. All three of them were grateful her for providing them with the much-needed medical advice. The old age home did not have sufficient funds for the medicines prescribed , so we took the initiative to provide them with the medicines.

SAI SAHARA AASHRAM
Here at TELE-UPCHAAR, we are driven by a single goal: to do our part in making the world a better place for all. Through a teleconsultation between Dr. Anand and a patient at Sai Sahara Aashram, we believe we are inching closer to that goal. This interaction of ours gave us a deeper insight into the workings of telemedicine and patient satisfaction. The patient at this old age home had a few problems that the doctor was able to resolve with utmost ease. As the patients' ailments were serious we got her connected with the doctor as soon as possible.

ORGANISATION FOR HELPLESS
As telemedicine is of extreme importance now , we decided to connect with the Organisation for Helpless, an old age home, so that Dr. Poonam could consult with a patient there. She prescribed medicines and mediation for the patient as treatment.

Dr. Anand listened to the patient’s problems and helped the patient by prescribing medicines and suggesting dietary changes.

PANCHVATI AASHRAM
By linking the patients at Panchvati Aashram with Dr. Thakur, we were able to give the patients a medium to express their medical problems. Upon hearing about the patient's medical complaints, Dr. Thakur advised cold compression and medicines for relief. The patient was happy to talk to the doctor and expressed her gratitude.

NAVJAN MORCHA SAMITI
The patients at Navjan Morcha Samiti , Faridabad consulted with Dr. Anand regarding their medical problems. The detailed video conference addressed eight patients and each expressed different concerns. Some of the patients also had severe pre-existing problems that the doctor addressed. She also asked the old age home to provide medical data like BP and weight after measurement for a more effective diagnosis and treatment.
The caretaker of the old age home also informed us of the lack of funds, which led to irregularity in providing medicines to their ailing patients, thus worsening their condition. In response to this, we promised to do the best that we can at providing the required medications to them.
SHRI BHEM SINGH SHAKUNTALA KAPILA
There were two patients at Shri Bhem Singh Shakuntala Kapila old age home. Dr. Poonam was able to provide effective consultation to the patients.

The old age home expressed gratitude to us and Dr. Poonam for helping resolve their ailments.

A chance conversation with a factory worker prompted this consultation. He was excited to try telemedicine in the hope that it will give him some relief. So,we were delighted when he told us that his pain had subdued with the help of the medicines given.

THERAPY SESSIONS AT ROYAL OLD AGE HOME
Mental health should be prioritized as a stable and balanced mental headspace is of utmost importance. To reinforce that we are having ongoing sessions with a patient at Royal Old Age Home, which are being conducted by psychologist Ms. Preeti Somani. It is very important to us that mental health is given its due importance.
